The MSD ChromeCare Program is a district-wide initiative designed to help students take greater responsibility for their Chromebooks — essential learning tools that support creativity, collaboration, and communication every day.
ChromeCare promotes digital responsibility, device care, and shared accountability among students, families, and staff. Through education, clear expectations, and positive incentives, we’re working together to ensure every student has a reliable, well-maintained Chromebook for learning.
Caring for Chromebooks is a shared responsibility:
Students agree to use their devices safely and responsibly.
Families support care at home and report any issues promptly.
Staff reinforce responsible use and help track and maintain devices.
When we work together, we not only protect district resources — we empower students to become thoughtful digital citizens who respect the tools that make learning possible.
Each year, our Chromebooks experience significant wear and tear — from cracked screens to lost chargers. When devices are damaged, it can interrupt instruction and create unnecessary costs for families and the district.
ChromeCare was created to:
Educate students on how to handle and maintain their devices properly.
Reduce damage and loss through awareness and accountability.
Promote fairness and consistency with a clear fee structure.
Encourage positive digital habits aligned with Digital Citizenship principles.
This program connects directly with Digital Citizenship Week and our district’s broader commitment to helping students become safe, responsible, and respectful users of technology and emerging tools like Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Instructional Focus: Students learn how to care for their Chromebooks through short videos, classroom posters, and discussions about responsible use.
The ChromeCare Pledge: Each student signs a pledge committing to responsible handling and digital citizenship.
Incentives and Recognition: Schools celebrate students and classes who consistently model proper care through challenges, competitions, and recognition events.
Accountability: A clear, tiered fee structure ensures that families are aware of expectations and procedures if a device is lost or damaged.
